Freycinet Adventures FAQs
Q – How fit do I need to be to participate?
A – Having a basic level of physical fitness is suggested to participate in our tours. Our 3-hour tour includes about 2 hours of paddling cumulatively, with a rest break halfway in between. If you are fit enough to participate in a leisurely recreation activity for 2 hours, our tour will suit your abilities perfectly! If you are unsure about your ability to participate, we may still be able to accommodate your needs depending on a variety of factors. Feel free to contact our office for personal enquiries.
Q – Do I have to paddle by myself?
A – No, our kayaks are double sea kayaks. If you are travelling on your own you will paddle with another guest or a guide.
Q – How many people will there be on our tour?
A – We accommodate a minimum of 2 guests, and up to a maximum of 16 guests per tour.
Q – Will I get wet?
A – You will get a little bit wet so we recommend comfortable clothing. We provide warm jackets and will try and keep you as dry as possible.
Q – Does it matter if I haven’t kayaked before?
A – No. Our tours are suitable for complete beginners. Our instructors will show you the ropes.
Q – Do you have height and weight restrictions?
A – Our sit-in tandem sea kayaks suit people who are up to 195cm (6 foot 5 inches) and up to approximately 120kgs. The enclosed seats of our boats have a diameter of about 45cm across. If you have concerns about fitting into our kayaks, please feel free to contact us further.
Q – How young can my children be to take part?
A – Families love our tours. Children from the age of 7 are able to join our kayak tours and need to be happy to sit still for 2-3 hours.
Q – Can children travel without an adult?
A – No. All children under 16 years old need to be with an accompanying adult.
Q – What do I need to bring?
A – A hat or sunglasses. A water bottle if you would like, we will take care of the rest.
Q – Can I bring my camera or phone?
A – Yes- we will have dry bags available to store your cameras or phones throughout the tour.
Q – What if I can’t swim?
A – As a safety precaution, you need to be able to swim to take part in our tours.
Q – What if it is windy and the conditions are too challenging?
A – Safety always comes first in our decision to take a group on the water!
If the weather/wind causes conditions that pertain for more challenging paddling, our guest services agent will be in contact with you prior to your trip to assess if you are interested in a more “adventurous” paddle. In some weather conditions, we will require that our guests have some previous sea kayaking experience, and a minimum of a moderate fitness level in order to safely execute an enjoyable tour. If the weather is not conducive for the safety of beginner paddlers, then you will be offered a full refund for your trip or an opportunity to reschedule.
Be aware that our guides always hold the ability to cancel a tour at any time if safety of the group is of concern. If we have to cancel your tour due to weather, you will receive a full refund for your booking!
Q – What if I want to cancel my tour?
A – If you no longer would like to participate in our tour for reasons not relating to weather and safety, we require 24-hour notice before your tour to receive a refund on your booking. We roster a specific number of guides based on our bookings, so this allows enough time for other participants to potentially fill the spot of your cancellation.
